You can't choose who will love you, but you do have a responsibility to the people who love you. It's almost like a debt of gratitude.
When you lose your sense of purpose find it in what you invest in the people around you.
Not all wisdom comes in sets of three (I only had two points =) )

What a great way to start my day. Great insights.
ReplyDeleteAny time you feel like fulfilling your debt of gratitude for my love, my back is always there. :-D
ReplyDeleteThe third point lies in pointing out the fact that you didn't have one...you'll be a pastor yet ;)
ReplyDeleteyou got me thinking though...you can't choose those who will love you, but you must respond somehow. Interesting.
You know, I've thot about this quite a bit since you first said it, cuz I didn'y know if I agreed or not. And I've come to the comclusion that I pretty much agree. Maybe I'd just word it different. But I thot, you know, it's God's love, the act (yes, actual act) of Him loving us that COMPELLS our response. It's like we're helpless in the face of His love, and anything we can do in return is as nothing. Maybe that's the "magic" of love. When you see an act of selflessness, of love, you can't help but be moved in return. Thank God we were made this way--if not, where would we be?
ReplyDeleteYes, Love-even freely given love (maybe esp the free stuff) compells a respose.
I think that love, in itself is a binding thing. Even if the giver of love doesn't expect anything in return. It's a free gift, but it does require an emotional response such as gratefulness or love. There are consequences to not returning love. In ourselves it is hard heartedness and ingratitude. To not appreciate the gift that is given us makes us uglier.
ReplyDeleteTo the ones who love us, they take the consequence of our lack of a response in themselves. They're the ones who hurt and yet forgive.
Failure to respond to the love given us results in hardening of our soul and beautifying through suffering the giver of love.
If you wonder about the truth of that...Think about the love Jesus has for us and His longsuffering towards us, even though we were enemies...and then next think of a mother's love for her children. She keeps loving and keeps serving and keeps praying for her children, whether or not they are grateful for the gift.
